Caché Connections in the News

Press Release

Cache’ Connections is an innovative business encompassing an established concept, but has a unique approach in delivering a service to the Christian single community. Unlike the competition, Cache’ Connections is owned and operated by Christians and is exclusively for Christians. This service transcends the typical dating sites as it offers hope, healing and expert advice for singles through live chats, live events and blogs.

This service is offered as a solution to change the current worldly trend of “anything goes” with regard to forming relationships. In a time where marriage avoidance is an ongoing dilemma and the single population is at a record high of almost 50 percent, Cache' Connections has recognized the need to look beyond a simple cure and also deal with the prevention aspect of this issue.

To assure a membership of like-minded believers, Cache’ Connections members are required to agree with four basic, non-denominational faith statements. Additionally, the questionnaire will help identify where each member stands in their personal faith walk. Since educating singles on healthy relationships is a core element of the service, members will be receiving relationship guidance from Drs. Tom and Bev Rodgers as they progress through the questionnaire.

In the Fall of 2007, Cache’ Connections’ initial, personalized service was featured in the Scrooge Report: see article below. This article prompted much attention from the Christian community in the United States and from as far away as New Zealand. Since its publication, the founders have been told repeatedly what a “much needed” service Cache’ Connections provides, and are anxious to spread awareness of this new venue for Christian singles to connect with other believers.

They're often a part of an overlooked population in the world of worship. While area houses of worship tend to focus their attention on family units, singles often have to fend for themselves.

"Approximately 60 percent of our population is single, and we forget that. We're rebuilding our singles' ministry and working hard. We have over 1,000 people who call Calvary their church who are single," said John Absher, the singles' pastor at Calvary Church of Naperville.  "Calvary's philosophy is to minister to everybody in the different various stages of life. Singles are a huge population in our country and especially in this area's demographics.

Calvary Church's Inclusion Singles' Ministry is for individuals ages 30 and older.

"We felt that it's important to have an ongoing ministry for single people."

The thriving group offers a variety of worship, study, service and social opportunities for hundreds of area Christian singles.

Absher said the purpose of the ministry is to provide a comfortable environment for those who have always been single, are single again or are content to remain single.

"We provide a place for them to all fit in," he said. "We offer the opportunity for singles to find fellowship together, grow in their faith."

Absher said it's often a challenge for singles to meet because it's difficult to connect socially in the workplace and many Christians forgo the bar or club scene. Inclusion Singles' Ministry provides an opportunity for Christians to find people of like faith and like values, he said.

Inclusion Singles' Ministry offers a variety of types of programs, including weekly Bible study, religious education, relationship counseling, leadership mentoring and social events.

Those social events include tonight's Cache Connections Live! featuring a Christian Internet matchmaking service. Inclusion Singles' Ministry will also hold a New Year's Eve party, including a catered dinner, live entertainment and a nonalcoholic midnight toast.

Absher said it's pretty rare for churches to have a ministry targeted specifically to singles, and especially to those 30 and over.

"Churches often can't afford the staff member. Calvary is so large, and we were willing to host community events for singles to meet one another and build friendships and romantic relationships if that is what they want to happen," he said.

Cache Connections Live is expected to draw as many as 400 area singles today. Linda Martin, one of the founders of Cache Connections, said their service is uniquely "structured for believers. We have four basic faith statements that anyone who has signed on will be presented with."

Martin said Cache Connections also provides expert relationship advice.

"We want to change the dating landscape from anything goes, to God's original design. We know that God hardwired man to love and be loved ... One man and one woman together," she said. "What also makes us different is that we pray for our members and couples in a connection."

Absher, who met his wife, Milena, through a Christian Internet dating service, said it is an increasingly popular way for Christians to find like-minded singles. Absher stressed that Internet dating services are not for everyone, and attendees at Cache Connections Live! will not be pressured in any way to join. "We just want to provide different outlets to meet people," he said.
